Hi y'all.. i bet a lot of people reading this are from the Bay area or Seattle or other places where critical mass is really huge. Baltimore's a pretty small and VERY bike-unfriendly city, but the Critical Mass here has really been gelling nicely.
We had 50 riders last Friday, and we've gotten some really good press coverage lately. In April one rider was arrested on completely bogus charges, the entire thing was captured on videotape, and the prosecutor wound up dropping all charges when faced with eyewitnesses and video evidence. Last Wednesday one rider hosted a "decorate your bike" party, and our most recent ride was very festive!
Baltimore doesn't have a ton of cyclists and it's primarily due to the bike-hostile pro-car attitude city officials espouse. We have zero bike lanes in the city limits and it recently came to light that police officers are REQUIRED to do two "bike stops" per WEEK.
So anybody's got some spare love for us baltimorons we could use it. :) Friday was the best time I've ever had on two wheels and I can't wait for the next one!
thanks for reading,
