One of the best part of going to critical mass in the winter, not
that vancouver really has a 'real' winter, but you get
all the die hard critical massers. it's nice.
last night we had 90 folk, so it was a cute mass,
and intimate.
unfortunately i got a fuckin flat though, and may
have ruined my rim a bit cause i continued to ride
for as short while.
however, you'd think i'd get all this support,
and i kinda did, and kinda didn't.
i put together this road bike, with a flat bar and spray
painted it matte black. she's friggin tight.
and i sooooo love it.
and she also has really thin tires. one of them is green.
but i was given so much hassle that i got a flat
because i had thin tires.
do only road bikes get flats?
and it was actually my fault cause i went over a grater
when i wasn't paying attention and let my back
wheel fall in or something like that.
i guess i'm just upset cause i felt like people
where offending my bike, and i get protective.
sigh..
in Vancouver, the method of route is decided by
whomever is in front and wants to lead,
is that the same everywhere else?

same here in santa cruz...
sux about your bike! we try to call to the rest of the group when we have bike problems, but seems like people have selective hearing when it comes to stopping.

Unsu...
Over here on vancouver island (victoria, bc), we got over 20 people, pretty good for a town of under 70,000 (the whole greater vic area is only about 300,000, i'm told...), and the best numbers in the recent memory of anyone there, definitely since before the summer ;).
Victoria Critical Mass teamed up with a mini-troupe of Radical Cheerleaders, who led the mass directly into the Bay Centre, the main mall downtown - on our bikes! - and performed an anti-consumption cheer for Buy Nothing Day. I think it was pretty appropriate, linking the pro-bike, reduce-car-and-oil-dependency message of the Mass, with the anti-mindless-consumption message of Buy Nothing Day...
We next biked out to a second mall a little bit further from the downtown to repeat the performance, which was cut short by a zealous undercover floor-walker (anti-shoplifter security guard)..
We stopped a few times to discuss with everyone and make generally collective decisions about where to go next... usually the people who had more experience and/or of a plan were in front...
